Pearl bracelets are beautiful accessories that are perfect for adding elegance to any outfit. Whether you wear pearls casually or dress them up for special occasions, these delicate pieces are always a fashion statement. Pearls are timeless and elegant jewelry that has been worn since ancient times. In fact, the word "pearl" comes from the Latin word perellum meaning "small ball".
In ancient China, pearls were considered sacred objects. Chinese emperors wore large quantities of pearls around their necks and wrists. During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Emperor Xuanzong was known to be fond of wearing pearls. He once said, I am fond of pearls because they bring good fortune.
Pearls grow inside oysters. Oyster shells are filled with nacre which contains calcium carbonate crystals. As the shell grows, the nacre becomes harder and thicker. Eventually, the nacre hardens into a solid mass called mother of pearl. Mother of pearl is actually a type of coral. Coral reefs are formed by colonies of tiny animals called polyps. Polyps secrete a substance called mucus that protects them from predators. Mucus is composed of microscopic particles called microorganisms. Microorganisms produce enzymes that break down organic matter. Over millions of years, the enzymes cause the mucus to become hardened into rocklike material called limestone. Limestone eventually forms into small grains of sand. Sand is compressed together to form pebbles. Pebbles are further compacted to form stones. Stones are crushed together to form gravel. Gravel is finally ground into dust. Dust is blown away by wind and settles onto the ocean floor where it collects into layers of sediment. Sediment builds up over thousands of years until it reaches a certain depth. At that point, the pressure exerted by the weight of the sediment causes water to seep into cracks in the rocks. Water dissolves minerals in the sediments causing them to precipitate out as mineral deposits. Minerals deposit themselves into the oyster's body creating the nucleus of a pearl. Once the nucleus is complete, the oyster dies and its body disintegrates leaving only the nucleus behind. The nucleus continues to grow until it reaches the desired size. After reaching maturity, the oyster releases the pearl into the sea. The process takes approximately two months.
Pearl bracelets are very popular among women today. Women love wearing pearls because they symbolize elegance and sophistication. Pearls are known to be timeless accessories which can be worn anytime and anywhere. In fact, many celebrities wear these beautiful jewelry pieces. However, there are different types of pearls available in the market. Some of them are cultured while others are natural. Natural pearls are found naturally in oysters whereas cultured pearls are grown artificially. Cultured pearls are considered superior to natural ones. There are several benefits associated with purchasing cultured pearls. Here are some of them:
Cultured pearls are hypoallergenic. As compared to natural pearls, they are free from impurities and bacteria. Therefore, they are safe for sensitive skin.
They last longer than natural pearls. Because they are cultured, they are stronger and durable. Hence, they can withstand rough handling and daily wear-and-tear.
The most important thing to look for when purchasing a pearl necklace is the quality of the pearls themselves. Pearls vary greatly in price depending on where they came from. Some pearls are cultured while others are natural. Natural pearls are found in oysters and are considered to be the best quality. Cultured pearls are grown in tanks and are therefore cheaper than natural ones. However, they still retain the same luster and shine as natural pearls. Most cultured pearls are white in color. White pearls are very popular because they match almost everything. Black pearls are rarer than white ones and are generally only worn during special occasions. Yellow pearls are also quite common and are especially good for summer wear. Green pearls are extremely rare and are mostly seen in museums. Blue pearls are also uncommon and are mainly worn by royalty. Red pearls are also rare and are typically reserved for bridesmaids and groomsmen. Pink pearls are also fairly rare and are usually sold as costume jewelry.
Another factor to take into consideration when choosing a pearl necklace is its length. There are many different lengths available ranging from short necklaces to long ones. Short necklaces are perfect for everyday wear and are ideal for women who want to show off their necks. Longer necklaces are suitable for formal events and weddings.
There are several colors of pearls including black, white, yellow, green, blue, red, pink, orange, brown, gray, silver, gold, copper, bronze, etc. Each color has its own unique characteristics. For example, black pearls are shiny and lustrous whereas white pearls are matte and dull. Brown pearls are known for being strong and durable. Gold and silver pearls are both hypoallergenic and hypo-toxic which means they are safe for those with sensitive skin. Copper and bronze pearls are also hypoallergenic and hypo-toxic.
